OVERVIEW AND TOPICS
Longshore Situs and Status
Participants will examine the Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Act and understand that medical and wage benefits are provided to employees whose work is maritime in nature and performed on near navigable waters of the United States. They will dive deep into the two tests that injured employees must meet to be covered under this Act, the Longshore Situs and Longshore Status Tests. They will explore the Longshore Act Status Exclusions and the Longshore Situs Case studies regarding non-navigable waters of the U.S. Participants will also learn the changes in the Act regarding what is considered a recreational vessel, with an in-depth review of the latest Regulations January 2012. They will discuss how the Act addresses passenger vessels, small passenger vessels, uninspected passenger vessels, vessels routinely used in commercial service, and vessels that routinely carry passengers for hire.
Protection & Indemnity Insurance
After an overview of Protection & Indemnity (P&I) Insurance and types of vessels needing coverage, participants will learn the unique exposures and legal remedies for crew injury, followed by an in-depth study of the major P&I Forms Comparisons. They will review P&I Endorsements including Automatic Acquisition Clause, Schedule of Vessels, Additional Insureds, Crew Warranty/Named Crew, and Combined Single Limit along with the Builders Risks P&I and Club Rules. Rounding out the presentation are Risk Transfer Techniques.
