OVERVIEW AND TOPICS

In this session, agents will identify potential pitfalls that could create problems and examine ways to solve them. Topics will include valuation, debris removal, ordinance or law, and vacancy as they pertain to the Building and Personal Property Coverage Form, as well as the Legal Liability and Leasehold Interest Coverage Forms.
Certificates of Insurance and the related issue of Additional Insureds are often sources of frustration, confusion, and E&O claims for the insurance producer. In this session, agents will review critical things to consider before issuing a certificate and identify ways to avoid some of the common problems and errors. They will discuss Additional Insureds in-depth, how they work, and how coverage is limited, as well as some common problems that can arise. The course will review the most commonly used Additional Insured Endorsements and examine requests frequently made of agents that may be problematic.
The primary focus of this session is on ridesharing and home sharing as examples of the new economy and the new way of doing business. Participants will discuss Homeowners and Personal Auto coverage issues that arise from these changes. The latter half of the presentation concentrates on the insurance issues related to national and state changes in marijuana possession and use laws.
Participants will learn the importance of planning for retirement and keeping the retirement plan current and applicable to the insured’s needs. They will evaluate various types of retirement funding mechanisms, including Annuities and Long-Term Care Insurance.
Participants will gain a better understanding of the ins and outs of each type of life insurance policy and be better equipped in choosing the ideal plan to meet the needs of their family and/or business. They will examine the types of term and whole life insurance along with the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Using recent professional liability insurance coverage cases, participants will sit as “jurors” in this interactive session. They will review and discuss the facts of each case and compare their decisions to the actual verdict by the appellate court. They will gain a better understanding of exposures and insurance coverages pertinent to both traditional professionals and non-traditional classes of business.
