OVERVIEW AND TOPICS

While most Commercial General Liability policies are issued on occurrence forms, claims-made policies are commonly associated with professional liability policies, such as Directors & Officers, Employment Practices Liability, Fiduciary, and other specialty coverages. In this session, participants will review the occurrence and claims-made forms and examine their differences. They will discuss key coverage issues that arise under claims-made policies, such as: coverage triggers, continuity of coverage, continuity of application, prior acts, retroactive date, pending and prior litigation, reporting periods, and more. Using real-life examples, they will identify coverage gaps and discuss ways to avoid them.
Participants will understand how healthcare risks differ from those of other industries and learn about the wide variety of healthcare-related operations. They will discuss how malpractice coverage functions for medical professionals, how underwriters evaluate and rate risks, and what coverages are most pertinent to healthcare providers and related entities.
What motivates ethical behavior and why is it important? Using real-life ethical dilemmas, participants will discuss the insurance agent’s obligations to the insurer, the consumer, and their peers.
Participants will discuss significant coverage issues associated with non-owned autos used for personal use and used in business. They will review the types of non-owned autos including leased, rented, borrowed, hired, etc. They will identify the exposures and protection provided in the latest edition of the ISO Personal Auto Policy and ISO Business Automobile Coverage form along with endorsements available to modify coverage. They will also examine rental car contracts and coverage available using insurance, waivers, and credit cards.
