OVERVIEW AND TOPICS

Emerging issues are not merely trends that may influence insureds and insurers in the future; they represent newly developing or evolving risks that could affect the marketplace and lead to new insurance coverage requirements. In this two-hour session, insurance and risk management professionals will explore emerging risks that may significantly impact their clients' businesses, their agencies or organizations, or even their careers. Topics will include the use of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, medicinal and recreational Marijuana, solar storms and falling satellites, autonomous vehicles, big data analytics and price optimization, and nanotechnology. Participants will examine the exposures, coverage challenges, and insurance concerns associated with these unique and emerging risks.
Buildings may be newly constructed or renovated for modernization or to assume new occupancies. Construction projects, whether residential or commercial, are complex and involve risks that can lead to delays, increased costs, and jeopardize asset. Given today’s industry challenges, for owners, developers, and contractors, managing these risks is essential. Builder's Risk insurance provides specialized coverage for projects during construction or renovation, filling a critical gap not typically addressed by commercial property policies. In this course, we will cover common insurance requirements in construction contracts and their significance. Insuring building projects with a Builder's Risk policy versus a Commercial Property policy will be discussed. Participants will gain insights into coverage details, including what is covered, what is excluded, property valuation, and potential exclusions. They will recognize challenges associated with Commercial Property policies for these risks.
In this course, agents will analyze important coverage changes in the most recent multistate revision of the ISO Homeowners Policy Program and discuss the potential effects of these changes on client coverage. The changes encompass revisions to coverage form definitions, exclusions, conditions, and provisions, as well as coverage for emerging issues such as motorized bicycles and scooters, home sharing and hosting activities, and controlled substances(marijuana etc.). The session will address concerns related to dwelling coverage, including replacement costs, rising construction expenses, and debris removal. Agents will identify gaps in personal property coverage and explore possible solutions. Additionally, they will review revisions to existing endorsements and evaluate new multistate endorsements, learning how specific endorsements can amend policy provisions, add coverage, increase/decrease coverage limits, or restrict coverage.
