OVERVIEW AND TOPICS
When the Unthinkable Happens…Will the Insurance Values Be Adequate?
The value of insurance-to-value is often overlooked. Overstated values may cause the insured to carry more insurance than necessary, and understated values may cause a devastating financial impact to the insured. In this session, participants learn some of the ways to determine coverage limits and what methods are available to achieve it. They will better understand the definitions, deductibles, endorsements, and coverage options in Personal and Commercial Insurance policies.
Florida 4-hour Update: Laws and Regulations
Insurance professionals will review the regulation of the insurance industry including jurisdiction of duties and responsibilities and licensing requirements. They will examine the licensing laws that affect their agency. They will discuss everything from who can be an agent in charge and what are the statutorily defined duties to what are the penalties for not properly licensing their agency. They will identify current legislative issues. They will learn the professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities in dealing with the day-to-day realities of the complex, ethical issues of the insurance industry along with the regulatory and ethical guidelines for Florida-licensed insurance professionals. The session will conclude with a review of current agency, agent, and adjuster violations and recent examples of enforcement actions.
Understanding Occurrence and Claims-Made Triggers
In this session, agents will review the occurrence and claims-made forms and examine the difference in coverage triggers. They will be able to explain the difference between the pure claims made and the more common claims-made and reported forms of coverage. Using real-life examples and court cases, they will identify coverage gaps and discuss ways to avoid them. They will have a better understanding of the Commercial General Liability Occurrence and Claims-Made coverage forms, including the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Certificates of Insurance: The Bane of Our Existence
Insurance certificates can be one of the more dangerous documents that float between insureds and insurers. In this session, participants will learn the importance of a certificate of insurance and how to use it properly to protect their clients from unexpected and unintended contractor exposures. They will examine the purpose of a certificate, critical details to consider before issuing a certificate, and typical contract requests for inclusion on certificates. They will identify common problems and mistakes when issuing certificates and discuss ways to avoid these common problems and errors.
Common Procedural Mistakes That Land Agents in Court
Participants will identify the procedural mistakes that give rise to E&O claims in insurance offices today and discuss the potential liability of each and loss control procedures. They will examine the methods that may be used to address these mistakes.
