Lance Ewing | Bio

Lance J. Ewing has extensive executive experience in the field of risk management and insurance. Currently, he is EVP of Global Risk Management for Cotton Holdings, Inc. In this capacity he handles global risk management, insurance, claims, compliance and governance. Lance’s previous experience includes VP Industry Practice Group Leader at AIG, senior risk management for Caesars Entertainment, GES Exposition Services/VIAD, and the City of Philadelphia School District. Lance also worked for several insurance companies and was President of three successful and innovative insurance captives. Lance received his master’s degree in Law & Justice from the University of Pittsburgh and completed his second master’s degree in Occupational Safety Engineering. In addition to earning his ARM and ERMP designations, he earned his CRM designation in 2001 and has been teaching for The National Alliance since 2002. Lance has served on the Advisory/Client boards of Willis, AIG, NFPA, AHLA, The National Alliance, and recently as the Chair of the Risk Management Program at the University of Mississippi, where he serves on the risk management board of the Business School. He is also a Past President of RIMS and was their first Chief Risk Officer. Lance was honored as the Insurance Leader by Globe Street, named the Risk Innovator of the Year (Treasury & Risk) and named Risk Manager of the Year (Business Insurance). He has authored numerous articles on insurance, risk management, and other related topics. Lance is an expert witness as part of the Insurance Expert Network and is also a member of the International OCEG (Compliance & Ethics). Lance continues to be a strong and outspoken supporter of GRC (Governance, Risk & Compliance), ERM (Enterprise Risk Management) and the risk management profession. He has also spoken and promoted the industry internationally.

Patrick Deem | Bio

Patrick Deem began his insurance industry career in December 1969 with USF&G Insurance Company in the Louisville, Kentucky Branch Office. He has been an Underwriting Manager, Sales Manager, Excess and Surplus Lines Underwriter, and an Independent Insurance Agent. Patrick publishes articles and conducts seminars on a state and national basis regarding technical subjects of property and casualty insurance for insurance and trade associations. In addition, Patrick has served as an insurance consultant and testified as an expert witness in various fields associated with the insurance industry. Currently, Patrick is a licensed Risk Manager in Texas. He founded Risk Management and Insurance Education Services in Austin, Texas, an independent company which serves insurance companies, agents, and insureds. Patrick holds the Certified Insurance Counselor designation, which he obtained in 1984. He has been a National Faculty member for The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research since 1986.
