OVERVIEW AND TOPICS
Order in the Courts
This 4-hour intermediate-level session enhances insurance professionals’ understanding of coverage interpretation through real-world litigation. Participants will act as “jurors” in an engaging, interactive format that uses actual appellate court decisions involving both personal and commercial lines policies. By examining case facts, coverage disputes, and judicial outcomes, professionals will explore how courts interpret policy language across various coverage forms—including commercial auto, general liability, dwelling fire, homeowners, personal auto, workers compensation, and life insurance. The session emphasizes identifying exposures, understanding policy provisions, and recognizing potential coverage gaps at the point of sale. Through guided discussions and verdict comparisons, attendees will gain practical insights into how coverage decisions are made and how proactive risk management and clear communication can help prevent disputes
Personal Lines Risk Management and Case Study
Personal risk management applies risk management principles to individuals and families, helping them mitigate the financial impact of unforeseen events. In this course, insurance professionals explore personal lines coverage challenges through case study format. Topics include exposures related to a primary residence—such as a detached garage used for rental/business, a swimming pool, shed, personal property, security system, and in-home business—as well as seasonal cottages, inherited farmland, and vacant land. Auto-related exposures are explored with a discussion on custom van, camper trailer, and a company car used for personal purposes. Participants evaluate how homeowners and auto policies address these exposures, identifying coverage gaps and limitations. By session’s end, professionals will be equipped to identify and assess personal lines risk exposures and recommend appropriate insurance and alternative risk management strategies tailored to individual and family needs.
