Craig Sietsema | Bio


Craig Sietsema launched his career in the insurance world by designing policy booklets, bank checks and various company forms for the Foremost Insurance Group in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He expanded this knowledge by joining the company's state filings department in 1993. While there he spent a total of 11 years working directly with the heart of the insurance product across 25 states. This work, along with a year in marketing, familiarized him with product management, underwriting, claims, actuarial, advertising, sales, licensing and appointment, call center operations, legal, regulatory affairs, data reporting and implementation management. In 2005, after the Foremost was acquired by Farmers, Craig was promoted to spearhead and develop Foremost's comprehensive compliance program, touching all aspects of company conduct in the marketplace and working directly with external state regulators who monitor that conduct. In 2010, he was again promoted to a director's role, providing home office leadership in direct support of the Farmers Chief Compliance Officer in Los Angeles, California. This role blossomed into assignments to lead compliance for 5 Farmers business units: Specialty Lines (Foremost), Non-Standard Auto (Bristol West), Independent Agent Operations, Excess & Surplus Lines (Kraft Lake) and National Flood. After 32 years of service, Craig retired from Farmers late December 2020. Mr. Sietsema has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Kendall College of Art and Design. He earned his CIC designation in 2005, and his CRM designation in 2012. He also earned a Market Conduct Management (MCM) designation in 2008.

Jim Glasser | Bio


James Glasser recently retired as the Resident Vice President and Regional Manager for The Central Mutual Insurance Company Northeast Regional Office. He was responsible for all underwriting, marketing, and claims functions serving independent agents in NH, MA, NY, and CT. James is a graduate of the University of Vermont and has been in the insurance industry for over 45 years. He has held a wide variety of management positions in underwriting, marketing, and general management for local, regional and national carriers in the New England marketplace. Specifically, for Peerless Insurance Company he was the director of commercial underwriting in the Home Office, and then Regional Underwriting Manager and Regional Vice President for the Massachusetts office. For Commercial Union Insurance Co., he was the Regional Marketing Director for the Southern New England Region. For Arbella Insurance Group, Glasser held a variety of positions including Vice President and General Manager of Arbella Protection Insurance Co., Assistant Vice President of Commercial Lines Underwriting, and Assistant Vice President of Marketing. An active proponent of continuing professional development, he sat on the Education Committee of the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA) and served as an instructor for that association, served as a member of the Boston Chapter CPCU board of directors. He earned his CIC designation in 1993 and his CRM designation in 2004. He is currently on the CIC Board of Governors with the National Alliance for Insurance Education and Research, sits on the Advisory Committee for the Insurance Company Operations institute, and serves as an instructor and educational consultant for the Alliance. He holds a Florida insurance agent license.

John Neal | Bio


John Neal has over 20 years’ experience in both personal and commercial lines insurance company operations with specific emphasis in the areas of risk management, risk analysis and risk financing. Within the Personal Lines market, John supported Farmers Insurance expansion into seven new Eastern states. Within Liberty Mutual’s Commercial Market Lines, John was Manager of Analysis for Risk Management Solutions where he managed a team of twelve Risk Management Consultants responsible for supporting Liberty Mutual's Commercial Market Distribution and Service Management Department. John provided analytical support for consulting projects, risk financing design and structuring, finite (financial) insurance products, cost allocation projects, loss analysis, captive support, and industry benchmarking. Currently, John is the Risk and Operations Manager at Cleanetics, a design-build clean room specialist serving an array of industries. John has also held positions as a Senior Risk Financing Analyst and Risk Management Consultant. Prior to entering the insurance and risk management field, John worked ten years in the pollution control and medical device industries as a chemical and manufacturing engineer, accountant, and financial manager. John's academic background includes a BS from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his CRM designation in 2005 and has been a CRM National Faculty member for The National Alliance since 2005. Currently, John supports faculty development for both CIC and CRM curriculums and also serves as an educational consultant.

Kirk Johnson | Bio


Kirk is currently a Commercial Lines Manager for Western National Insurance in their Western Regional office in Seattle, WA.  Prior to becoming a CIC faculty member with The National Alliance, Kirk was a home office staff underwriter for a national insurance carrier.  Overall, he has over 34 years of experience with three national insurance companies, as well as three regional carriers. Kirk has enjoyed a wide variety of experiences in commercial underwriting, product development, state filing and compliance, reinsurance, technical writing and training.

After honorably serving the U.S. Navy, Kirk began his insurance career in the mailroom.  Attributing his success to a lifetime of learning, he earned the Associate in General Insurance in 1991.  In 2002, he received the Certified Insurance Counselor designation and in 2016, he received the Certified Risk Manager designation.

Michael Thomas DeHetre | Bio


Mike DeHetre is Vice President of Underwriting for Berkley Regional Marketplace in Wilmington, DE. Mike began his career in the insurance industry in 1993 after receiving his Bachelor's degree in Business from the University of Maryland. He subsequently earned his M.B.A. from the University of Connecticut. Mike received his CIC designation in 2002 and his CRM designation in 2008. Mike traces the path of his career across the United States including Maryland, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Arizona, Texas, North Carolina, and Connecticut with companies including USF&G, The Hartford, Acadia, and Travelers. He has had the opportunity to watch the growth and development of the small commercial segment in particular from the use rating manuals, to rating disks and dial-up mainframe access, to the proliferation of mobile technologies today. Mike's passion for education has led him to many teaching opportunities throughout his career. He is excited to continue to bring his enthusiasm and commitment to the industry and to many more groups in the future.
