Daniel Lawyer | Bio

Dan Lawyer began his insurance career in 1974 as a claims adjustor for Erie Insurance, and then later as a district sales manager. He started his own independent insurance agency in 1981, and operated as Lawyer Insurance Agency in Hermitage, Pennsylvania for 25 years. In 2007 Dan merged with Reinhardt's Agency Inc. until his retirement in March 2017. Dan earned his CIC designation in 1986 and his CSRM designation in 2012. He served on the board of directors of Insurance Agents & Brokers of Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware as well as on The National Alliance Board of Governors of CISR. Both organizations managed to somehow survive his tenure. He began his teaching career in 1989 and still teaches many different classes for both organizations today.

Joseph Karl Sherrill | Bio

Karl Sherrill is a Consultant with Marsh & McLennan Agency (MMA) in their High Point, NC office. Karl serves as the Leader for the National Manufacturing Practice Group at MMA and manages their Private Education and Tuition Insurance programs. Prior to joining MMA, Karl worked over 20 years in manufacturing with specific experience in textiles, automotive, furniture, plastics, food and beverage, distribution/supply chain, and heavy machinery. He has specific training in team building, ISO Standards, OSHA Voluntary Courses, and Kaizen Continuous Improvement Instruction. His background provides unique insights into the risk that companies face and allows him to build innovative and forward thinking risk management strategies for his clients. Karl is a respected lecturer having taught undergraduate and graduate courses in professional sales, sales management, business communication, and fundamentals of management. He enjoys speaking to various business groups regarding ethics, leadership, interpersonal relationship dynamics, and professional network building. Karl earned his CIC and CRM designations in 2013. Karl is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Textile Management. He also earned his MBA from Elon University, where he received the Richard H. Behrman Most Outstanding MBA Graduate award. Karl was also inducted into the International Business School Honor Society of Beta Gamma Sigma. He served on the board for the Elon School of Business and was a founding member of both the Elon Chandler Professional Sales Center Board of Advisors and the Elon MBA Student-Alumni Board. Karl serves as a District Director on the Board of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) and is a past Chairperson for the NC Young Agents Committee of the IIANC. In 2011, Karl was selected as the North Carolina Young Agent of the Year. He also serves on the Legislative Committee for the IIANC where he spends time in Washington, DC meeting with legislators regarding insurance and business legislation. In the community, Karl serves on the advisory board for a local bank, held leadership roles in church and civic organizations. As an Eagle Scout, he remains active in his local troop.

Rebecca Lathrop | Bio

Becky Lathrop is the Vice President of Optimum Performance Solutions, LLC, a company that provides management consulting on a nationwide basis to insurance agencies and carriers. Both her agency and corporate experiences provide unique perspectives when assisting her clients. Becky earned her CIC designation in 2004 and is a Certified Professional Insurance Agent. She has a degree in Risk Management and Insurance from Florida State University and has been working in the insurance industry for over 30 years. Becky has a diverse background in the insurance business, including positions such as Agency Business Consultant, Sales Manager, Underwriting Consultant, Financial/Market Analyst, Portfolio Manager, and Office Manager. Becky helps agencies throughout the United States grow profitably by counseling them in areas such as workflow management, staff stratification/organization and training, sales/ marketing business plans, client retention, strategic planning, and producer management and compensation. She has also developed and facilitates many agency and carrier training programs, including a sales/service training series to assist with cross-up selling growth; marketing/profitability workshops to help agencies manage their loss ratios, and assist them with capitalizing on contingency bonus opportunities.
